Selecting Jewelry For Men

Many women will have a hard time selecting jewelry for the men
in their life to give at Christmas. It seems that there are so
many occasions to give gifts throughout the year, that some
women run out of speed on coming up with gift ideas by the time
Christmas arrives. Jewelry is always a good choice for Christmas
gift giving and men especially love to receive gold jewelry at
any time of the year.

Gold jewelry is very warm and friendly and a neutral gift choice
for men who are only friends. A co-worker would certainly
appreciate a piece of jewelry that can be worn around the wrist
and the links in the bracelet could be large enough to ensure
that all observers understand that it was clearly designed for a
man. A woman must still be on her toes when selecting jewelry
for men because if it looks feminine in any way, the man is
likely to refrain from wearing it.

A woman will feel closer to the man she grew up with if she
presents him with a piece of jewelry that he is certain to wear
everyday. Dad would be sure to enjoy any jewelry that comes from
their little girl or boy. A parent will always cherish jewelry
that is handmade by little hands during a weekend, and will be
quite thrilled to get a money clip with the same little unique
designs on them that were the trademark of all crafts made when
the child was young.

Jewelry selections that have more meaning are the ones that can
be personalized with initials or names. There are many unique
shapes that can be engraved on a piece of jewelry and the person
who receives this type of jewelry will always feel very special
while wearing it. Some families will customize their jewelry
needs so that every member of the family owns necklaces that
match. The styling for the letters will be the same on each one
but the personalization chosen could be very different.

Men might prefer wearing signet rings that bear one initials and
this style of jewelry has been very popular in the past and will
probably continue being a favorite for holiday gifts for many
years to come. The styling for jewelry might change through the
years, and men rely on old favorites to meet their jewelry
needs. Most men will wear a low number of rings at one time, but
have a choice of rings to pick from are one of the joys that men
have when buying jewelry.

Selecting jewelry for men can be relatively painless if a person
has a gift list in hand. Some men have a passion for natural
stones and the natural choice for these people is to buy jewelry
that features turquoise or onyx stones in them. The precious
metals used in jewelry for men can be smooth as silk, or
fashioned in a setting that turns gold into molten rock shapes.
The rugged features of a man that have a passion for the
outdoors might prefer gold jewelry items that are fashioned from
raw gold nuggets. Getting to know the type of man that you are
shopping for will help when the Christmas holiday shopping
season begins.

Fashion Jewelry Down the Ages

Fashion jewelry is not a concept that was born in modern times
contrary to what a lot of people might think. It existed way
back, dating as far back to the 1700’s. In those days it used to
be referred to as costume jewelry. Costume and fashion jewelry
are essentially the same thing. They were used to accessorize
certain outfits and were not meant to last long periods of
times. Here a peek at what fashion jewelry looked like over the
last couple of centuries.

The 1700s – duplications of the fine jewelry of the rich

The fashion jewelry that was perhaps the most common in the
1700s was duplicates of the fine jewelry that the rich
possessed. The rich duplicated their fine jewelry for a number
of reasons. These fashion jewelry items and were often made out
of cheap metal with glass stones that were pasted on it.

The 1800s – inventive middle class jewelry

By the middle of the 1800s, the middle class had grown in
substantial numbers and jewelry began to be manufactured at
different levels to cater to all strata’s of society. While fine
jewelry from precious metal and stone was still being made,
fashion jewelry was also being made. This jewelry was generally
made of an inexpensive base metal and then covered with a layer
of rolled gold. Semi precious stones like corals, pearls,
amethysts etc would be used. These brought down the cost of the
jewelry considerably yet kept it looking classy. There was also
the even cheaper variety which was base metal that looked like
gold with glass stones. This was fashion jewelry that was
affordable to everybody.

The 1900’s – stylish make believes

In the 1900s fashion jewelry went through distinct phases and it
is because of this that it is fairly easy to distinguish the era
from which a particular piece came from. Between 1910 and 1930
silver was the in color for metal. Most of the jewelry from this
period was set in base metals that were colored to look silver.
In the 1930s rhinestones became a popular material that was
being used in fashion jewelry in Europe. These stones however
were not freely available in America till the 1940s and
therefore the rhinestone jewelry that was found in America prior
to the 1940s was made up of small clusters of stones rather that
a big single piece.

The present times – modern and trendy?

The fashion jewelry available today is not very different from
what was used in the years that have gone by. The concept is
still the same – inexpensive fun jewelry to accessorize an
outfit. In fact while fashion jewelry today is modern, trendy &
stylish, there is also a segment that is reverting to antique
and vintage styles. These pieces may not be as heavy as their
original counter part, but if they are worn right they make
excellent fashion statements and are most definitely
conversation starters! So go ahead, have fun accessorizing with
fashion jewelry and dress to turn heads.
